| Day 2 | Helsinki & Suomenlinna Tour
Train to Rovaniemi |
After breakfast, Go on a jam-packed tour in the city of Helsinki, Finland, and see over 12 attractions in just half a day! See amazing structures like the Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral, the largest church in all of Eastern Europe. Admire its golden cupolas and redbrick façade, which undoubtedly display Russia’s impact on the country’s history. Marvel at the grandeur of Helsinki Olympic Stadium as well and get to imagine the thrill of being there during the Finnish 1952 Summer Olympics. Then, at Sibelius Park, see the Sibelius Monument, a thought-provoking abstract sculpture dedicated to the late great composer Jean Sibelius. In the other half of the tour, take a ferry to the world heritage site Suomenlinna. This is a fortress built in the mid-18th century, back when the country was still part of Sweden. Enter its main gateway through the Jetty Barracks, a structure built to fit over 250 soldiers during peacetime. Then, see the Suomenlinna Church and gaze at its classic onion domes! Morning, reach Rovaniemi station, transfer to the hotel. Get accustomed to the cold winds and explore surroundings.
You have a unique opportunity to learn about reindeer and their life. Tourists pass an exam on riding a reindeer sled and even receive a special “driving license” without any age restrictions or doping control. Have a seat in the sled and you are off! Getting cold? You can warm yourselves around a bonfire in a hut and enjoy a cup of hot juice. In a traditional Lapp hut, you will be “baptized” in accordance with all the Northern rules. Overnight in Rovaniemi. You will be transported approximately 20 km outside the city, to a serene lakeside location devoid of any light pollution—a perfect vantage point for observing this extraordinary natural spectacle.
Immersed within the dazzling Arctic landscapes, you will find yourself surrounded by pristine nature, adorned with a canopy of millions of sparkling stars overhead. Once you arrive at the lakeside, your senses will be further delighted by a traditional Lappish barbecue and warm blueberry tea, offering a delightful respite amidst the captivating experience.
