Shirui Hills, Manipur: Home to the Rare Shirui Lily and One of Northeast India's Most Beautiful Treks

The trek to the summit is one of the highlights of visiting Ukhrul. Beginning near Shirui Village, the trail gradually winds through dense forests, open meadows, and scenic ridgelines before reaching the hilltop. Depending on the chosen route and pace, the trek generally takes 2–3 hours one way and is considered easy to moderate, making it suitable for beginners as well as experienced trekkers.Throughout the journey, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, drifting clouds, colourful wildflowers, and refreshing mountain air. During the blooming season, trekkers may witness the legendary Shirui Lily growing naturally across the grassy slopes, creating one of India's most unique floral landscapes.

Every year in May, Manipur celebrates the Shirui Lily Festival, a vibrant event that showcases the region's natural heritage and indigenous culture. Organised by the Department of Tourism, the festival features cultural performances, traditional sports, local handicrafts, food festivals, adventure activities, and guided treks to Shirui Hills. The celebration not only promotes tourism but also spreads awareness about conserving the endangered Shirui Lily and its fragile habitat.
